Countdown to Earth Day: Flip the Switch

Earth Day is this Friday, April 22nd. I want everyone to take the time to think about what we can do in the next few days to really make a difference globally. Think you cannot make an impact? You are mistaken. Your power is amazing and We can all make a difference. So starting today, I am going to begin my Countdown to Earth Day by posting simple tips that you can use in your daily life to go Green. These really are beneficial activities and will still include the luxury quality and appeal that I seek when researching products and services. Let me tell you, it really is up to us to take care of our precious and beautiful planet. As our lifestyles sometimes cause us to indulge, it is our duty to respect our blessed planet and adopt lifelong activities to preserve her.

(You can totally do it. Some of you preserve yourselves with Botox, am I right?)

So today let's focus on one little act that can make a huge difference. 1. Simply turning off the lights. From the Global Warming perspective, he less electricity we use, the less carbon dioxide emissions are released from the power stations. All of this mumbo jumbo equates to better air for us to breathe. My family includes over 6 asthmatics and between all of us, we spend close to $700/ month on medication. This is with insurance, people. Air is important to all of us and as with everything for me, quality is key.

My family is pretty indulgent in the energy arena. We currently have 3 PC's, 2 laptops, 2
iphones, 1 iPod, 1 projector, 1 tv and the list goes on. We also have 16 light switches in our house. By turning them off, we save about $50/ year, which isn't much but thank goodness success is not always measured in monetary gain. Statistics have shown that by shutting off the lights and power to unused appliances, their longevity is increased. How much does this save you? Who knows but it's worth giving it a try just knowing that it is doing good for the Earth.

Children learn best by example and after a while of mimicking your Eco-friendly behaviors, they may become the Chief of Light Switch Police. You can start by making it fun & create a game every time you leave the house of who can turn out the most lights in a minute. They will love it and Mother Earth will thank you for enriching the next generation with ways of preserving it.

Today I pledged on behalf of
my family and I, to turn off the lights whenever we are not using them. Click here to make your pledge today and find out more information about Earth Day 2011. I feel an amazing shift based on actual Earth awareness in todays climate. There is a huge social movement towards taking care of the Earth and don't we all seek to be chic? Get with the times and go Green. It just takes the flip of a switch...
