Runway to Real Life

Fashion week is in full swing and fashion's latest designs are being shown on runways in cities all over the world. Some would wonder how this fits into their daily shopping lives. What does the Marc Jacobs livestream on Vogue.com have to do with me? How can I afford anything off the of Dolce & Gabana runway? There are not many and actually even less these days who can afford what they used to. But when it comes to fashion, it all starts with the designers showing their collections on the catwalks and then key elements from those shows pop up in new designs in every place from boutiques to discount superstores. At the shows, only some can afford the pre-order styles offered up by a select handful of designers but everybody who attends a show will leave with a little bit more style than they came in with. These shows dictate what we will wear in the near future. Whether it be pastels or polka dots, the runway is where to see it first. I am admittedly addicted to the shows. Always have been. I am ok with my addiction at this point. It's a lifelong addiction which really harms no one. So here is what I have conjured up for your to take from the runways of S/S 2013 to your real life with selections from a handful of my favorite shows this far.

Runway:
Embellished collars were seen in the BCBG Max Azria show for 2013. From jewels to embroidery rich embellishments are here and I'm loving it. BCBG chose the- perfect- for- everyone -color coral to show off the details and white stripe blocking. Now I think plenty of you out there could wear this runway ensemble and wearability really has no price tag.

Real Life:
Shop for items with high embellishments. This new trend moves from day to night with ease.
Also, white trim is popping up so you shop it up.

Runway:
Diane von Furstenburg took fashion to a cyber level by pairing her designs with matching Google Glasses. The brands came together to unveil their new fashions and uber geeky technology. Very Chieky. (chic + geeky) (Pronounced: "sheekee")

Real Life:
Join the legions of geek + chic and become social media savvy. Find an outlet that matches your personal style and get going. Whether it be Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, Blogger or Google+, there is something out there for everyone to expose or express themselves. As with fashion, find what works for you and express yourself

Runway:
With Victoria Beckham's ready to wear for 2013, we saw tons of black (woohoo!) and perfectly paired purses. (Say that five times fast!) Ok, but seriously, black and white are THE new colors. Sound boring? Not likely with killer accessories like these custom flats that were designed along with Manolo Blahnik. Mrs. Beckham is definitely a newer name in the fashion game but has earned her keep by showcasing classic elements and evolving designs to work for real people.

Real Life:
Classic colors like black and white are back. Also seek out neutral layers mixed with one standout piece. Adding an extra color to pop with a neutral ensemble is easy and chic and done in minutes. Simple style. Shop for smartly matching accessories to finish off your ensembles.

Runway:
Diane von Furstenburg is so good, that she has added a second definition to our current trends list. The oversized metallic belt has clean lines that pair well with an eye-stopping neckline and boldly patterned dress.

Real Life:
Shop for silver or gold accessories. Polished is the choice so don't add too many accessories. No one wants to have dinner with a genie. Shiny accents on shoes or new purses are added style bonuses that are in this season and easy ways to add style to your outfit.

Runway:
If I could eat any collection this season, it would be Marc Jacobs. It was like really rich ice cream. From the mod styles and 60's inspired hair and stiff collars. I love it all. The return of when people dressed for every occasion is seen here.

Real Life:
Mod styles with longer hemlines and signatures like big buttons, stiff shoulders and collars done in neutral colors here and very characteristic black. All these are what you should be shopping for. Keep it clean & sophisticated for every occasion with classic coats, demure handbags and super pointed flat shoes.

Runway:
Designer Prabal Gurung showed layers of black ensembles pairing shear overlays with midriff baring tops and super long tailored pants. All in black. The super cool element of sunglasses is fit for any season. Note the low heal. It's a kitten.

Real Life:
To my ultimate delight, I get to tell you what the designers have told me through social media visuals. Wear black. Again with the lower heel. Are we saying goodbye to the high high heels? Good riddance.
Also, shop for sunglasses whenever. They are a smart buy and protect you from the sun.
